Abdul Samad Rabiu’s ASRi awards Ghana with $3-million educational infrastructure grant

by Editorial Team

The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASRi) has awarded the Ghanaian Education Ministry a $3-million educational infrastructure support grant. Ghana will receive the grant from ASRi’s annual $100-million Africa Fund for Social Development and Renewal.

The ASRi recently presented a letter of award to the Ghanaian government at the Jubilee House in Accra.

Since the ASRi’s inception in March, only Nigeria, Rabiu’s home country, has benefited. This makes Ghana the first ASRi-grant African country-beneficiary after Nigeria. It hopes to enhance the construction of several primary schools in Ghana.

“Whilst reviewing potential national beneficiaries for the African aspect of the grant, we were encouraged by the strides made by the Ghanaian government in education,” ASRi Managing Director Udoh Ubon said. “We believe this $3-million ASR Africa education infrastructure grant will go a long way in supporting the eradication of ‘schools under trees’ across the country whilst developing primary education infrastructure across the country.”

Ubon made the statement at a presentation ceremony, while commending Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo for his commitment to developing the country’s educational system at all levels.

Ghanaian Presidential Office Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare received the ASRi delegation on the government’s behalf.

While showing gratitude, she noted that the grant was a welcome development that will accelerate the work being done by the Akufo-Addo administration, which is committed to improving education and educational infrastructure in the country.

Osei-Opare added that the government will work with ASRi to come up with a program to build primary schools in Ghana under the grant based on the agreed mutual accountability framework.

The ASRi was founded in March 2021 to provide sustainable, impact-based homegrown solutions to developmental issues, affecting health, education and social development in Africa.

Rabiu is giving back to the continent through the ASRi to promote sustainable healthcare, education and social development.
