Los Angeles-born professional football star DeSean Jackson has officially announced his retirement from the National Football League (NFL) after a 15-year career that saw him rake in $91.6 million in career earnings.

The announcement, made via an Instagram post on Wed., Nov., 29, marks the end of an era for the wide receiver who, turning 37 this Friday, leaves behind a legacy of exceptional athleticism and financial success.

Jackson — who entered the NFL as a second-round pick for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2008 — enjoyed a career that spanned six teams, with stints in Washington and Tampa, before returning to the Eagles for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

His impressive journey in the NFL is accompanied by a financial portfolio, with career earnings amounting to $91.6 million. Notably, Jackson secured a lucrative 5-year, $47 million extension with the Eagles in 2012 — contributing significantly to his fortune.

Over his 15-season career, Jackson made three Pro Bowl appearances during his time with the Eagles from 2008 to 2013. His excellence in the sport is reflected in his career numbers — 641 catches for 11,263 yards and 58 touchdowns across 183 games.

Beyond his contributions as a receiver, he showcased versatility by running 72 times for 463 yards and four touchdowns. His impact was also felt in special teams — returning four punts for scores — including a walk-off return against the Giants in 2010.

A landmark moment in Jackson’s career occurred in 2014 when he signed a three-year deal with the Washington Redskins — encompassing $24 million in compensation, with a substantial $16-million guaranteed payment.
