On Friday, Billionaires.Africa reported that Tanzanian multimillionaire Seif Ali Seif’s company, Kagera Sugar, will be acquiring the sugar assets of the troubled sugar producer and property group, Tongaat Hulett.

Kagera Sugar is a subsidiary of Super Group, a large Tanzanian conglomerate controlled by Seif Ali Seif and his family. Super Group boasts an annual turnover of over $200 million and employs just over 1,000 people in Tanzania.

These are the six businesses in the group’s portfolio:

The estate spans 14,500 hectares, with a significant portion of the land irrigated by water from the Kagera River.
  2. Superdoll Trailer Manufacture: Superdoll is a prominent manufacturer of high-end trailers and tankers in the East, Central, and Southern African region. Among its key customers are Coca-Cola and Tanzania Breweries, a subsidiary of SAB Miller.
  3. Superstar Forwarders: An integrated logistics provider, Superstar Forwarders specializes in cross-border transportation, freight forwarding, and clearing services. Originally established in 1991 as a small general cargo haulage business, it has grown into a major transport logistics solution provider and is one of the leading hauliers of containers, equipment, fuel, and general cargo in the East, Central, and Southern Africa regions. The company operates a fleet of more than 200 trucks.
  4. Pipes Industries Co. Ltd. (PIL): PIL is engaged in manufacturing GRP, HDPE, steel, and PVC pipes, catering to the requirements of the Agriculture, Industrial, Mining, Construction, and Water Supply sectors.
  5. Superretread Tyres Co. Ltd.: Established in 1998, Superretread Tyres Co. Ltd. specializes in retreading used tires for reintegration into full service. It has earned a reputation as a world-class provider of retreaded tires, offering comprehensive tire services to benefit transporters throughout Tanzania. Additionally, Superretread is a leading provider of Fleet and Tyre Management Solutions in Tanzania for users of commercial vehicles, tires, and replacement products and services.
  6. Mtibwa Sugar Estate Ltd.: One of the largest sugar producers in Tanzania, Mtibwa Sugar Estate’s sugar plantation is situated in Morogoro in Tanzania’s eastern region, covering 6,000 hectares. The company sources cane from its own fields and a portion from small outgrowers in the surrounding villages. Some of the sugar produced is exported to the EU under the Sugar Protocol, while the rest is sold domestically.
