Remgro, controlled by Africa’s richest man, increases stake in Heineken

Remgro, a publicly listed South African investment holding company chaired and controlled by billionaire Johann Rupert, said on Monday that it had acquired more than 13 million Heineken Beverages shares over the last three months, increasing its stake in the beer maker to 8.8 percent from 15.5 percent through off-market transactions.

Heineken Beverages is the combined entity resulting from Heineken’s combination with Distell Group Holdings in 2023.

Rupert, Africa’s richest man, owns a 6.87-percent stake in investment holding company Remgro worth over $357.2 million.

According to a recent ranking of the 30 richest investors on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange recently published by Billionaires.Africa, he is also the second richest investor on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
