South African multimillionaire businessman Xolane Ndhlovu has created a $1-million relief fund through DafriBank Plc to assist Africans affected by the Russia-Ukraine situation.

Ndlovu stated that he is motivated to assist Africans who have lost their livelihood as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“I feel driven to do what I can to help to start with fellow Africans who have lost their livelihood as a result of the conflict. Through DafriBank, I’m donating $1 million to Africans living in Ukraine and Russia, both returnees and those still in the conflict zone,” Ndhlovu said.

The move is part of a larger strategy to bring together various humanitarian groups, corporations and public figures to assist Africans who have lost their livelihood as a result of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s military actions in Ukraine.

Ndhlovu, a serial entrepreneur, philanthropist and the chairman of DafriGroup, is known for managing DafriBank, a multipurpose African bank that explores a simpler and better way to save, make payments, manage customers’ money, and conduct business anytime, anywhere.

The businessman, who founded UMEH Group, a household brand in the media and hotel sectors, played a crucial role in the merging of UMEH Group with DafriGroup in 2021, in a transaction worth more than R1 billion ($66.54 million), according to sources close to the deal.

DafriBank made a supplementary statement in which it expressed gratitude to its chairman for his generosity to Africans who have been directly impacted by the continuing crisis.

The bank went on to say that the $1 million in relief funds will be distributed through DafriBank to Africans affected by the Ukraine-Russia war and that the cash will be monitored to ensure that it reaches the intended recipients.
