Egyptian entrepreneur Gohar Said’s Suplyd closes $1.6-million funding round

by Feyisayo Ajayi

Suplyd, a Cairo-based startup founded in 2022 by Gohar Said, Karim Selima, and Ahmed El-Mahdy, has raised $1.6 million in funding to digitize supply chain operations for the Middle East and North Africa’s hotels, restaurants, and catering (HORECA) industries.

Said, Selima, and El-Mahdy founded Suplyd to address the challenges faced by the HORECA industry in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Said, who has 12 years of experience in the restaurant industry, identified issues such as the unavailability of menu items and high procurement costs. These challenges often result in lost revenue and unhappy customers, he said.

“We founded Suplyd to help restaurants and other businesses in the HORECA industry overcome these challenges and streamline their operations,” Said explained. “Our platform gives them access to a wider range of stock-keeping units and simplifies the transaction and delivery process.”

The Cairo-based startup has developed a smart and reliable platform to digitize supply chain operations and bring efficiency to Egypt and the broader MENA market.

Its pre-seed round was supported by notable investors, including Outlierz, Plus Ventures, Fort, and Alex Angels, as well as several strategic angel investors. This funding will help the startup continue to develop and grow its platform, bringing even more efficiency and convenience to the supply chain industry.

With a leadership team comprising well-experienced co-founders and members from diverse backgrounds, including growth, sourcing, business development, and product development, Suplyd is confident in its ability to deliver on its mission to transform the supply chain industry.

Through its latest round of funding, Suplyd hopes to scale up quickly and further invest in its technology, expand its team, and extend its operations to more areas. This will enable the company to continue driving innovation and growth in the supply chain industry.
