Nigerian multimillionaire businessman Idahosa Wells Okunbo has died after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Okunbo was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last September, according to ThisDay.
He was pronounced dead on Aug. 8 in London after moving to the United Kingdom to receive medical treatment.
Okunbo was born on Jan. 7, 1978 in Benin City, the capital and largest city of Edo State in southern Nigeria.
At the age of 21, the multimillionaire philanthropist became a professional commercial pilot with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Training Center. He became a captain in 1983 at the age of 25.
Okunbo played seminal roles in a number of successful companies and businesses in Nigeria, including CMES-OMS Petroleum Development, Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, and Wells San-Carlos Agro Farms Limited, which opened a $750-million, 9,000-hectare farm in Edo in March 2016.
He also led the boards of several companies in Nigeria, including Joint Marine Environ Guard Limited, Secure Anchorage Area Limited, Digisteel Integrated Services Limited, Phil Nugent Nigeria Limited.
Okunbo also served as the director of Integrated Energy Distribution and Marketing Limited, a core investor in electricity distribution companies in Nigeria.
Aside from his directorial roles, Okunbo founded Hoslyn Ventures Nigeria Limited, a Nigerian petroleum procurement company.
He is survived by his wife, Nosa, and 11 children.
