Namibian businessman Koos Brandt’s stake in Capricorn Group now worth $81.2 million

The equity stake of Namibian multimillionaire businessman and investor Jacobus “Koos” Brandt in Capricorn Group Limited is currently worth NAD1.23 billion ($81.43 million).

Capricorn Group is a Namibia-based investment holding focused on banking, insurance, wealth and asset management and finance.

The group has an operational footprint in Botswana, Namibia and Zambia through its subsidiaries in banking, microlending, property development and unit trust and asset management.

The group’s flagship brand is Bank Windhoek. The bank is the largest locally owned bank and the second largest commercial bank in Namibia.

Brandt, who stepped down as the chairman of the board of Capricorn Group and Bank Windhoek in 2017, is the largest individual shareholder in the holding with an ownership stake of 18.36 percent.

As of press time, 6:00 AM (UTC), Aug. 25, Capricorn’s shares on the Namibian Stock Exchange were worth NAD12.94 ($0.8602) per share, giving the group’s market capitalization a NAD6.67-billion ($443.55 million) valuation.

At the current price, the market value of Brandt’s stake is NAD1.23 billion ($81.43 million).

His stake has increased by 29 percent in the past 153 days. This translates to a gain of NAD273.82 ($18.20 million) since March 1, when shares in the group were worth NAD10.12 ($0.6727) on the local bourse.

Despite serving as a director of many companies and groups in Namibia and outside the country, Brandt holds a leadership position in Capricorn as a non-executive director and key positions in several companies in the group.

For his leadership role in Capricorn, he earned a total director’s fee of NAD720,000 ($47,900) during the group’s 2020 financial year, which ended in June 2020.
