Mozambican business magnate Salimo Abdula’s son kidnapped in South Africa, media report

Jair Abdula, the eldest son of Salimo Abdula, one of the richest men in Mozambique, has been kidnapped.

According to Mozambican and Portuguese news reports, Jair Abdula was kidnapped on Thursday night in the city of Benoni in South Africa. The Gauteng provincial command of the South African Police has reportedly confirmed the incident and has yet to provide further details.

In addition to being president of the highly influential Business Confederation of the Community of Portuguese-Language Countries, Salimo Abdula is the founder of Intelec Holdings Group, one of Mozambique’s largest conglomerates, with interests in agriculture, construction, energy, finance, mining, telecommunications and textiles.

Abdula is also one of the largest shareholders of Vodacom’s operations in Mozambique and sits on the company’s board.
