Moroccan business leader Lamia Tazi has recorded total gains of MAD14.13 million ($1.53 million) from the Morocco-based pharmaceutical company, Marocaine Ste de Therapeutique (Sothema), in the past 22 days.

Sothema is the leading healthcare company in Morocco, and one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Africa and the Middle East.

Tazi, who is the company’s chairwoman of the board and CEO, holds a substantial 3.93-percent stake, amounting to 282,644 shares.

The million-dollar gain in her stake can be linked to the single-digit percentage increase in the share price of the pharmaceutical company, as investors sustained buying interest in anticipation of its financial statement for 2021.

As of late afternoon, Jan. 12, Sothema shares were trading at a price of MAD1,500 ($162.86), 33-basis points lower than their opening price on the Casablanca bourse that morning.

At the price, the market capitalization of the Morocco-based pharmaceutical company is MAD10.4 billion ($1.17 billion), while Tazi’s stake is worth MAD423.97 million ($46.13 million)

Since Dec. 21, 2021, the company’s shares have increased from a price of MAD1,450 ($157.44) per share to MAD1,500 ($162.86) at the time of the drafting of this report. This led to a total 3.45-percent gain for shareholders in 22 days.

As a result of the upward surge in the company’s shares, the market value of Tazi’s stake has risen from MAD409.83 million ($44.5 million) on Dec. 21, 2021 to MAD1,500 ($162.86) on Jan. 12.

This translates to a MAD14.13-million ($1.53 million) gain for the leading businesswoman.
