Prominent Indian-Ghanian industrialist Ramchand Udharam Mohinani has died following a brief illness, Graphic Online reported.Â
His family announced that he passed away in the early hours of June 12. He died in Accra, Ghana, at age 87.
Mohinani was the founder and chairman of Mohinani Group, a leading second-generation family-owned business. The group employs thousands of personnel through its multi-sector operations, which include manufacturing and packaging, as well as chemical, polymer and consumer durables distribution.
Mohinani Group celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2016. Ghana is the group’s primary market.Â
During the anniversary celebration, the group recounted its accolades in the five decades since its founding, stating that it employs more than 10,000 people, has awarded scholarships and has donated educational infrastructure and potable water to numerous communities.Â
The University of Ghana awarded Mohinani an honorary degree for his achievements in industry two months before the company marked its fiftieth anniversary, The News Minute reported.
Mohinani led a recycling campaign at the group to mark the date that engaged over 5,000 pupils in the Greater Accra and Ashanti regions.
Mohinani Group has offices in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Hong Kong, London and Mumbai. Its clients and suppliers include LG Electronics, Exxon Mobil, Unilever, Procter & Gamble and Coca-Cola.
