Ghana’s National Democratic Congress tells government to support mogul Ibrahim Mahama’s Dzata Cement

by Editorial Team

Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) has told the government to create an enabling environment for multimillionaire mogul Ibrahim Mahama’s Dzata Cement and other indigenous projects in the country.

The NDC is a social-democratic political party founded by the late former President Jerry Rawlings. The NDC made the statement in a press release issued after the recent launch of the Dzata Cement factory.

In the release, the NDC Professionals Forum stated that the government needs to support investments to get the economy on the path of sustainable growth.

“We urge the current government to continue to show support for Dzata Cement as being portrayed in the Ghanaian media and create the enabling environment for other businesses to thrive. The cost of doing business in Ghana is very high and does not create room for fresh businesses to survive,” NDC Professionals Forum President Arnold Appiah was quoted as saying.

He added that the government needs to look carefully at the cost of doing business in Ghana to create a climate that will allow businesses and strategic investments to thrive. This will encourage Ghanaians and the diaspora to have more confidence in Ghana and to explore opportunities in the country, he said.

The $100-million Dzata Cement factory is located in Tema City and has a projected capacity of about 3 million metric tonnes of cement annually. It will focus on the national and regional markets. Construction began in 2011 and operations were initially slated to launch by Q1 2018.

The factory intends to commence production this year.
