Nigerian gambling magnate Kessington Adebutu has donated a fully furnished eye center to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu in Ogun State, Nigeria.
The donation was made through his Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation, Eagle Online reported. It came several days after his 86th birthday on Oct. 24.
The teaching hospital operates under Ogun State University. It is funded primarily by Ogun State, with minimal federal government contributions.
Commenting during the center’s commissioning, Adebutu said that ”the investment was borne out of the need to provide standard eye care facility in the state for the benefit of mankind.”
However, he called on well-meaning people to join hands with the government to facilitate the rapid development of the health sector.
Adebutu is the founder and CEO of Nigeria’s oldest and leading gaming company, Premier Lotto Limited.
He also holds a 28.09-percent stake in Wema Bank through Neemtree Limited, a special purpose vehicle incorporated in 2013 to acquire shares in targeted organizations.
Last month, the businessman signed a sponsorship deal with the Nigeria Football Federation for an undisclosed amount. This made him an official sponsor of the country’s national football teams alongside aviation tycoon Allen Onyema.
