Egyptian businessman Hassan Allam’s company joins subcontractors in El-Dabaa nuclear plant construction

Hassan Allam Holding, a privately held engineering, construction, and infrastructure firm led by Egyptian businessman Hassan Allam, has joined a long list of subcontractors involved in the construction of Egypt’s first nuclear power station, El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant (NPP).

According to Amgad El-Wakeel, chairperson of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA), the El-Dabaa NPP, which will be built by Russian engineering company Atomstroyexport, has been awarded to Petrojet, Arab Contractors, and Hassan Allam Holding as subcontractors.

He stated that the choice of Hassan Allam Holding and other regional construction businesses is consistent with the authority’s pledge that the Egyptian enterprises will provide the plant’s equipment.

El-Wakeel added that the local component will amount to at least 20 percent in the first phase and 35 percent in the fourth.

The project’s launch will deliver upon years of work in Egypt to establish a nuclear power and shore up the country’s capacity by 4.8 gigawatts. Th first reactor will be commissioned in 2028.

With more than 80 years of experience, Hassan Allam Holding is one of the largest privately held enterprises in Egypt, the Middle East, and North Africa.

It is led by Allam, who built the holding into an enterprise with over 15 subsidiaries operating in engineering and construction, alternative energy, and utilities.

In April, its subsidiary Hassan Allam Utilities and UAE renewable energy group Masdar signed a memorandum of understanding to develop hydrogen production plants in Egypt as part of the government’s Intended Nationally Determined Contributions aimed at decarbonizing the energy sector.
