As his $150-million per year deal with BET approaches its end, African-American billionaire Tyler Perry is looking for a potentially more lucrative offer.

The movie producer and actor, who presently has a partnership with BET that allows its 1.5 million BET+ subscribers to access his content, may be looking for a “sweeter deal” at another streaming site like Netflix, according to Yahoo!.

Perry received an equity share in BET+, a premium online streaming service featuring more than 2,000 hours of Black content from leading Black producers, when he inked the multimillion-dollar deal with Viacom (now Paramount Global), the owner of BET, in 2019 to produce new movies and TV shows.

Founded in 2006, Perry’s Tyler Perry Studios jointly runs the online streaming service together with Paramount Streaming, a part of Paramount Global. The service was introduced in September 2019.

Perry has done well over the past three years, delivering BET the top two leading cable series for Black audiences in 2021, with “Sistas” and “The Oval.” He has even had time to make films outside of the deal, including “A Madea Homecoming” and “A Fall From Grace” on Netflix.

A writer, producer, director, and actor best known for his comedic roles, Perry has made more than $660 million from the “Madea” film franchise, which has a devoted following.

His film library dating back to the early 1990s and his earnings as a producer have contributed to his current net worth, which is estimated to be $1 billion as of the time of publication.

In 2019, Perry opened Tyler Perry Studios, a 330-acre facility in Atlanta with 12 sound stages and unique sets, including a to-scale White House.

Unlike many other actors and producers, Perry owns all the content that he has produced.
