MDaaS Global, a health technology startup founded by Nigerian entrepreneur Oluwasogo Oni, has launched its first diagnostic clinic in Douala, Cameroon’s largest city.

This expansion into Francophone Africa is part of the company’s strategy to broaden its presence beyond Nigeria to meet increasing healthcare demands across the continent.

The Douala clinic offers vital diagnostic services, responding to the limited public healthcare infrastructure in the area and aiming to meet rising healthcare needs in this bilingual, fast-growing city.

“What sets us apart is our integrated tech-driven approach to diagnostics,” said Oni, MDaaS’s CEO. “By managing the entire tech ecosystem in-house, we can scale rapidly and operate efficiently.”

Diversifying beyond Nigeria

MDaaS’s expansion aligns with its goal of reducing reliance on Nigeria’s volatile economy, impacted recently by the naira’s depreciation.

The company views Cameroon’s healthcare sector as ripe for improvement, where service delays and diagnostic bottlenecks present gaps MDaaS is well-suited to fill.

“We’ve already solved these challenges in Nigeria, and now we’re bringing those solutions to Cameroon,” Oni noted.

The company, which has diagnosed over 360,000 patients to date, has spent six years optimizing its diagnostic technologies to lower operational costs and streamline patient visits.

This approach has fueled MDaaS’s strong growth, particularly in underserved Nigerian cities such as Ibadan, Ilorin, and Akure.

Innovation in African healthcare

Founded in 2016 by Oni, Opeyemi Ologun, and Genevieve Oni, MDaaS offers a range of diagnostic services, including imaging and cardiac evaluations.

Powered by its BeaconOS platform, the company’s suite includes tools like Olewerk, a diagnostics workflow optimizer, and Beam, which provides occupational health solutions for corporate clients.

MDaaS, backed by $3 million in pre-Series A funding and inclusion in the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund 2023, aims to transform healthcare access across Africa, targeting the next billion people.
