LeBron James, the iconic NBA superstar who became the league’s first active billionaire player in June 2022, SpringHill Company has partnered with European production powerhouse Mediawan to expand its global reach, focusing on developing and co-producing original film and television projects.

The partnership is designed to bolster both companies' presence in their respective markets, with Mediawan benefiting from increased access to the U.S. market, while SpringHill Co. strengthens its foothold in Europe. Mediawan, which already holds a majority stake in Plan B Entertainment, is looking to enhance its content offerings through this strategic alliance.

Expanding global content creation

SpringHill Co., co-founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter, is well-known for its focus on culturally impactful projects that resonate with diverse audiences. Through this collaboration, the company will work with Mediawan to adapt existing intellectual property for local audiences, as well as develop new international distribution channels. Some of the initial projects include the basketball-themed “Weekend Warriors,” a co-production between SpringHill Co. and Mediawan's Plan B, which has already been picked up by Apple TV+.

In addition to creating new content, the partnership aims to localize successful formats for international markets. "The Shop," an unscripted series created by SpringHill, is expanding its footprint by launching a French version in collaboration with Mediawan’s Black Dynamite Production. This move mirrors the show's earlier expansion into the U.K., where it was produced and hosted by Idris Elba. The partnership highlights both companies' commitment to delivering engaging content that caters to diverse audiences across multiple regions, particularly in North America, Europe, and Africa.

Focus on international markets

For Mediawan, this partnership with SpringHill Co. is part of a broader strategy to team up with high-profile creatives to strengthen its position in key global markets. With more than 80 production companies under its umbrella, Mediawan has steadily grown its international presence, including acquiring a majority stake in UK producer Misfits and the German production group Leonine. The collaboration with SpringHill will allow both companies to explore new revenue streams while tapping into global audiences eager for fresh and authentic storytelling.

Pierre-Antoine Capton, co-founder and CEO of Mediawan, expressed excitement about the partnership, noting that their shared vision for adapting beloved stories and creating original content aligns perfectly. The companies' first two projects are just the beginning of what they believe will be a long and fruitful relationship, further solidifying both companies’ status as leaders in the global entertainment industry.
