Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a technology company owned by Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa, has inked a strategic partnership with American connectivity pioneer Globalstar to deliver cutting-edge 5G connectivity solutions across Africa, the Middle East, and the Gulf.
The partnership grants Liquid exclusive rights to distribute Globalstar’s XCOM RAN private networks 5G access solution across these regions, positioning the company at the forefront of next-generation wireless technology. The advanced 5G platform, which supports AI-driven applications, is poised to revolutionize sectors such as mining in Africa and high-end markets in the Middle East and Gulf.
As part of the deal, Liquid will offer comprehensive customer support for Globalstar’s products and services, including technical assistance and warranty coverage. The collaboration also opens the door for potential expansion into Globalstar’s satellite offerings, Band n53 spectrum, and IoT solutions on a non-exclusive basis.
Liquid and Globalstar’s vision for transformative technology
“We are on the cusp of a revolution in 5G private networks,” said Strive Masiyiwa, Founder and Chairman of Liquid Intelligent Technologies. “This technology is groundbreaking—it enables large enterprises, such as mines, to operate their own 5G networks while supporting advanced services like AI. The possibilities are transformative.”
Paul E. Jacobs, CEO of Globalstar, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership: “The regions where Liquid leads are rapidly growing markets for our technology, which facilitates safe automation and remote control of mobile equipment in high-value environments.”
“Our 5G XCOM RAN product fundamentally differs from traditional wireless solutions, offering mission-critical, high-performance wireless applications. Together, Liquid and Globalstar will fast-track advanced wireless technology deployments across Africa, the Middle East, and Gulf regions,” Jacobs added.
Liquid Intelligent Technologies’ strategic growth under Strive Masiyiwa
Liquid Intelligent Technologies is a subsidiary of Cassava Technologies, a major pan-African tech conglomerate with a presence in over 20 countries, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa. The company boasts an extensive 110,000 km fiber broadband network, solidifying its position as the leading provider of digital infrastructure on the continent.
Under the leadership of Strive Masiyiwa, whose net worth is estimated at $2 billion, Liquid has pursued aggressive expansion. In 2023, the company extended its reach into the Middle East by acquiring Cairo-based cloud and cybersecurity firm Cysiv MEA. That same year, Liquid also partnered with Microsoft to provide internet access to 20 million underserved individuals across Africa by 2025.
