In a move bolstering Liberia’s air travel security and infrastructure, Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama, founder and CEO of Engineers & Planners Limited and Dzata Cement, has donated critical equipment to the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA).

Mahama, a multimillionaire industrialist, presented 20 police vehicles and three high-capacity (1,200 KVA) electricity generators to the Liberia Airport Authority. The ceremony, held in Monrovia, was attended by Liberian President Joseph Boakai and Vice President Jeremiah Koung.

Mahama strengthens Liberia-Ghana ties with airport aid

The donation is expected to significantly enhance security and operational efficiency at Roberts International Airport, Liberia’s main international gateway. The police vehicles will bolster the airport’s security force, while the generators will ensure a reliable power supply, crucial for smooth airport operations.

President Boakai expressed his gratitude to Mahama, highlighting the importance of philanthropy in national development. He emphasized that the donation would “significantly improve our airport’s capabilities,” enhancing traveler safety and comfort.

Vice President Koung echoed these sentiments, underscoring the longstanding relationship between Ghana and Liberia. He characterized Mahama’s act as a testament to the “strong bond” between the two nations, expressing deep appreciation for his commitment to Liberia’s progress.

Mahama, known for his philanthropic work across Africa, reiterated his dedication to supporting infrastructure projects that benefit local communities. He emphasized the importance of strong infrastructure for economic growth and expressed his belief that the equipment would play a crucial role in enhancing the airport’s operations.

Legacy of leadership: Ibrahim Mahama’s ventures in mining and construction

Mahama is a prominent Ghanaian businessman and the younger brother of John Dramani Mahama, who served as Ghana’s President from 2012 to 2017 and is the flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

Founded in 1997, his company, Engineers & Planners (E&P), is a construction and mining company with a strong presence in Ghana and Liberia. E&P employs over 4,000 workers and has undertaken various infrastructure projects, including road construction and mining operations.

E&P is currently engaged in hard rock contract mining for South African mining giant Gold Fields at its world-class mines in Tarkwa and Abosso, Ghana. In 2023, E&P secured a significant $230 million equipment financing deal with the Mansour Group, demonstrating the company’s continued growth and investment in the region.
