Yusuf Manji, a well-known Dar es Salaam-based businessman and chairman of Quality Group Limited (QGL), has died at the age of 48. Manji passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at midnight in Florida, USA, where he was receiving medical treatment. His son, Mehbub Manji, confirmed the news in a brief message.

Yusuf Manji led Quality Group Limited, a $700-million conglomerate operating in a broad range of sectors, including automobiles, real estate, facilities, and trade. Under his leadership, QGL became one of the most reputed business brands in Tanzania. Beyond his business ventures, Manji was also the chairman of Young Africans SC, arguably the most successful football club in Tanzania.

In 2021, Manji faced legal troubles when the Tanzanian anti-corruption agency arrested him on allegations of fraud and tax evasion. Salum Hamduni, the director-general of Tanzania’s Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau, confirmed Manji’s arrest. He stated that the businessman was questioned for causing government losses through tax evasion and fraudulent deals.

Born on October 14, 1975, in Tanzania, Yusuf Manji built a reputation for entrepreneurial success and leadership. He founded Quality Group Limited, which grew under his stewardship to include interests in manufacturing (plastics and steel products), beverages, and pharmaceuticals. His strategic investments and business acumen earned him recognition across East Africa.
