Nigerian billionaire and chairman of the Victims Support Fund (VSF), Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, has opened a skill acquisition center in Yobe State. Danjuma is one of the country’s wealthiest individuals and a top investor on the Nigerian Exchange.
The center is one of nine being built in the Gujba, Gulani, and Fika local government areas. It aims to provide training in skills like computer training, tailoring, electrical work, welding, and carpentry to unemployed youths.
The initiative is part of the organization’s recovery programs after the insurgency and is important because of the current peace in the state. Danjuma emphasized the importance of these centers in equipping the youth with practical skills for employment and self-sufficiency.
Promoting sustainability and economic growth
Professor Nana Tanko, VSF executive director, explained that the centers will serve women, youth, and other community members, promoting sustainability and economic growth. She highlighted VSF’s ongoing support for the Northeast region since 2014 through various interventions, including educational materials, savings and loans associations, and grants for women to expand their businesses.
“The inauguration of this acquisition center in Kukargadu marks the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of the beneficiaries and VSF’s commitment to supporting the Northeast region’s recovery and development,” Tanko said.
