In a landmark development for Kogi State’s education sector, the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), led by Nigerian billionaire Abdul Samad Rabiu, has begun the construction of a world-class research laboratory for the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Kogi State.
The world-class research laboratory is one of many interventions under ASR Africa’s Tertiary Education Grants Scheme (TEGS), which is funded by ASR Africa’s $100-million fund for social development and renewal.
The vice chancellor of the University, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, expressed gratitude to the chairman of ASR Africa during the groundbreaking event. He emphasized that the project would address infrastructure deficits, particularly in research, and serve as a platform for scientific advancements in physical and life sciences.
During his response speech, Dr. Ubon Udoh, the managing director and CEO of ASR Africa, offered thanks to the university’s management and students for their warm reception. He assured the chairman’s commitment to supporting quality education in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
He also encouraged responsible use and maintenance of the facility as a way to appreciate the grant. The ASR Africa grant and award process began in December 2022, and the university community joyfully received confirmation of their nomination.
