South African-born tycoon Barry Stuhler’s fortune has soared thanks to his investment in Lighthouse Properties. Recent gains in the company’s shares have boosted his wealth significantly, cementing his status among South Africa’s richest individuals.

According to data tracked by Billionaires.Africa, Stuhler’s stake in Lighthouse Properties has surged by R69.08 million ($3.64 million) over the past 13 days, fueled by the uptick in the group’s shares on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).

From South Africa to Europe: Stuhler’s diverse real estate holdings

Malta-based property firm Lighthouse Properties, listed on the JSE, possesses a diverse portfolio of retail assets spanning France, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Notably, Stuhler holds a significant 9.72-percent ownership stake in Lighthouse Properties, equivalent to 172,699,222 ordinary shares, valued at $72.12 million. This substantial holding establishes him as one of the wealthiest investors on the JSE.

Bringing over three decades of real estate expertise, Stuhler, the co-founder of Resilient Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), also extends his influence with stakes in Pangbourne Properties, a high-performing property investment company established in 2007.

Stuhler’s wealth soars as Lighthouse Properties’ market cap surges above $750 million

Over the past two weeks, Lighthouse Properties’ shares on the JSE have climbed 5.19 percent, from R7.7 ($0.4059) on March 15 to R8.1 ($0.4269). This boost has pushed the company’s market cap over $750 million, bringing gains for investors like Stuhler.

Stuhler’s stake in Lighthouse Properties has jumped by R69.08 million ($3.64 million), rising from R1.33 billion ($70.11 million) on March 5 to R1.4 billion ($73.75 million) at the time of drafting this report.
