South African billionaire Ivan Glasenberg has experienced a remarkable surge in his wealth over the past 34 days, with gains primarily attributed to his investment portfolio, particularly his stakes in Glencore, a Swiss multinational commodity trading, and mining company.

According to data tracked by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Glasenberg, well-known as one of South Africa’s wealthiest individuals, has witnessed a staggering increase of $510 million in his net worth since Feb. 9. This surge has propelled his fortune from $7.67 billion to its present value of $8.18 billion.

Market rally boosts Glasenberg’s fortunes

Despite recording substantial year-to-date losses totaling $687 million, Glasenberg’s recent ascent in wealth has been notable. Ranked 315th on the list of the world’s richest individuals, he has climbed from the 318th spot since Feb. 9. The bulk of his $8.18 billion fortune is derived from his 9.81 percent stake in Glencore.

The recent surge translates to a daily average gain of $15 million since Feb. 9, marking a significant increase linked to the recent market rally. This rally has substantially amplified the market value of Glasenberg’s stake in Glencore.

Glencore’s shares surge by nearly nine percent on the London Stock Exchange

Over the past 34 days, the market value of Glasenberg’s stake in Glencore has surged by more than $500 million, rising from $5.94 billion on Feb. 9 to $6.45 billion at the time of reporting. This surge has been predominantly driven by the recent rebound in Glencore’s share price on the London Stock Exchange.

Data from the London Stock Exchange, as tracked by Billionaires.Africa, indicates that Glencore’s share price has surged by 8.57 percent, climbing from £3.85 ($4.91) on Feb. 9 to £4.18 ($5.33) at the time of this report.
