Burkina Faso’s wealthiest man Mahamadou Bonkoungou is expanding his business empire with the introduction of “BKG SPEED,” an online car reservation platform that aims to revolutionize the on-demand transport system in Togo.

In a strategic move to diversify his conglomerate, the 58-year-old businessman and owner of EBOMAF, one of West Africa’s largest construction companies, has expanded his reach with the launch of “BKG SPEED,” an innovative car reservation platform.

This expansion follows a series of strategic moves by Bonkoungou, including the growth of his financial services business, IB Holding and IB Bank, and the successful launch of a commercial airline, Liz Aviation, in April 2023.

BKG SPEED set to transform Togo’s on-demand transportation landscape and boost economic development

The newly introduced car reservation platform, operating under the subsidiary Bonkoungou Distribution (BKG), strengthens Bonkoungou’s presence in Togo.

This platform will enable users not only to order and book cars for various purposes but also to access racing, meal, and parcel delivery services. The operational scope extends throughout Togo, facilitated by a fleet of 500 brand-new cars and professional drivers deployed across the country.

Prisca Somda, Communications Manager at BKG SPEED, expressed the company’s vision, stating, “Our ambition is to revolutionize the on-demand transport system, bring added value to our customers, and actively participate in the growth of the Togolese economy and the creation of jobs.”

Mahamadou Bonkoungou’s entry into the online car reservation market is set to intensify competition, challenging established startups like Gozem and emerging players such as Kingoo. Having acquired the “Le Klic” platform four months ago, Bonkoungou aims to expand his business to the UEMOA and ECOWAS regions.

To facilitate this expansion, Bonkoungou plans to capitalize on the success of “Le Klic” and leverage the robust infrastructure of the recently launched BKG SPEED platform. This strategic move highlights his commitment to establishing a significant presence in the competitive West African market.

This expansion follows Bonkoungou’s recent diversification into the healthcare sector with the inauguration of the Princess Sarah Clinic in Ouaga 2000, an extension of Burkina Faso’s capital city. In collaboration with a Turkish clinic, Princess Sarah Clinic addresses patient evacuation issues, contributing to the improvement of Burkina Faso’s overall healthcare landscape.

Bonkoungou’s venture into online car reservations and related services marks a new phase in his entrepreneurial journey, reflecting the changing dynamics of the digital economy in the region.
