South African executive Niall Lynch earns $1-million salary in 2023

Lynch’s 2023 compensation package reflects a 53.69-percent increase compared to the previous year’s total reward of R11.81 million ($0.62 million).

South African business executive Niall Lynch — the chief operating officer (COO) of Motus Aftermarket Parts, a division of Motus Holdings — received a total compensation package of R18.15 million ($1 million) in 2023 from the leading multinational automotive group.

Lynch’s 2023 compensation package reflects a 53.69-percent increase compared to the previous year’s total reward of R11.81 million ($0.62 million) — this mirrors Motus Holdings’ impressive financial performance during the period under review.

The compensation package comprises a base salary of R4.35 million ($0.23 million) and a short-term incentive of R3.96 million ($0.21 million). Additionally, he received a long-term incentive of R9.84 million ($0.52 million).

Motus Holdings, a leading multinational automotive group, has solidified its position as a global automotive solutions provider with a strong presence across key markets such as South Africa, the United Kingdom, Australia, South East Asia, Southern, and East Africa.

Lynch, a 13-year veteran of the group, has held multiple franchise director roles in the retail and rental units. He previously led Renault South Africa (now Motus Vehicles Distributor) and served as CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa for seven years.

Recently, he transitioned to the role of COO for the Aftermarket Parts business, starting July 1, 2023, moving from his CEO position at Hyundai South Africa.

Lynch’s commitment: 4.76-percent stake in Motus valued at $43.4 million

In 2023, Motus reported strong financial performance, with revenue increasing by 15.6 percent to R106.32 billion ($5.63 billion) from R91.98 billion ($4.87 million) in 2022. The company’s assets also rose significantly, up 57 percent to R62.55 billion ($3.31 billion) in 2023, compared to R39.82 billion ($2.11 billion) in 2022.

Aside from his executive roles, Lynch holds a 4.76-percent indirect stake in Motus Holdings Limited, which equals 8,247,167 shares, presently valued at R826.12 million ($43.4 million).

This strategic alignment of personal interests with the company’s success underscores Lynch’s commitment to Motus’ ongoing prosperity and his substantial role as a leading shareholder in the company.
