Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc (Transcorp), a diversified conglomerate led by Nigerian businessman Tony Elumelu, has announced a robust financial performance for its 2023 fiscal year, with a remarkable 44-percent surge in revenue to over $160 million.

According to the recently published unaudited financial statements, Transcorp’s revenue soared from N134.72 billion ($112.8 million) in 2022 to N193.97 billion ($162.4 million) at the end of the 2023 fiscal year.

This impressive growth was primarily fueled by a surge in revenue from the conglomerate’s power unit, reaching N151.27 billion ($126.64 million), and a notable increase in revenue from its hospitality business, which climbed to N42.7 billion ($35.75 million).

Transcorp’s record-breaking year: Elumelu’s influence and diversified ventures pay off

Transcorp‘s diversified investments in the hospitality, power, oil, and gas sectors played a pivotal role in the surge, with the power unit and hospitality business contributing significantly to the overall revenue boost.

Elumelu, through his investment firm HH Capital, holds a commanding 29.5-percent stake in Transcorp, owning 11,990,957,350 ordinary shares. Elumelu’s influence, backed by his roles in Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa, and the Tony Elumelu Foundation, has been instrumental in steering Transcorp towards financial success.

The stellar financial performance translated into substantial gains across various financial indicators. The operating profit surged from N46.7 billion ($39.1 million) in 2022 to N80.15 billion ($67.1 million) in 2023, and the profit for the year increased from N16.84 billion ($14.1 million) to N34.09 billion ($28.54 million).

Shareholders’ equity soars: Transcorp’s financial resilience shines

Transcorp’s financial prowess has solidified its standing as one of the fastest-growing conglomerates in Nigeria, reflecting a significant surge in retained earnings. The retained earnings increased from N54.58 billion ($45.7 million) as of December 31, 2022, to N66.52 billion ($55.7 million) as of December 31, 2023.

During the review period, Transcorp’s assets witnessed an impressive increase from N442.7 billion ($370.4 million) to N523.2 billion ($437.7 million). Simultaneously, shareholders’ equity also experienced substantial growth, rising from N154.77 billion ($129.6 million) as of December 31, 2022, to N191.7 billion ($160.5 million) as of December 31, 2023.

Transcorp’s stellar financial performance in 2023 underscores its commitment to elevating living standards, driving African transformation, and ensuring enduring value for its shareholders. The conglomerate’s ability to navigate and thrive in diverse sectors has positioned it among the leading businesses in the local economy.
