Nigerian magnate Theophilus Danjuma who ranks as one of the country’s wealthiest individuals and one of the most affluent investors on the Nigerian Exchange, has officially opened the doors to the Goodwill Medical Centre (GMC) in Enugu State — located in southeastern Nigeria.
The state-of-the-art medical facility, fully funded by Danjuma’s philanthropic organization — the TY Danjuma Foundation — is poised to make significant strides in providing accessible healthcare services to the less privileged.

The project, conceived in March 2022, was unveiled by the 84-year-old businessman, politician, and retired army general, who emphasized its central focus on delivering low-cost, high-efficiency medical services—his dedication to community welfare has been a consistent theme throughout his endeavors.
Staffed with seven consultant specialists and professors, the GMC stands as a beacon of hope for indigent patients, aiming to provide low-cost treatments for the economically disadvantaged while maintaining standard medical fees for those more affluent.
The array of services offered includes maternal and child health, general primary healthcare, laboratory, eye health, prevention and treatment of communicable diseases, general surgical, and accident and emergency services, showcasing a holistic approach to address various healthcare needs within the community.
Danjuma’s legacy: Fueling community development beyond business
Danjuma, the founder of South Atlantic Petroleum, a leading oil exploration company, has consistently engaged in philanthropic endeavors—beyond his interest broad business interests, he is renowned for his commitment to community development.
Nearly two weeks ago, made a $1.36-million donation to the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan (CoMUI) — setting a new record for philanthropy in the university. The move is in response to a request from the CoMUI — the $1.36-million donation will be allocated to the construction of Block D within the student’s hostel.
In April, Danjuma, the majority shareholder of publicly listed Industrial and Medical Gases Nigeria Plc, donated a 500-capacity female hostel to the University of Benin. The female hostel is a testament to his dedication to education and community welfare.
