South African billionaire Koos Bekker, known for his expansive tech industry investments, has experienced a substantial $300-million increase in his net worth in five days as a result of a surge in the market value of his diverse tech-related holdings.
According to data tracked by the U.S. business magazine Forbes, Bekker, a top figure among South Africa’s richest individuals and one of Africa’s top billionaires, has seen his net worth surge by $300 million from $2.3 billion on Sept. 26 to $2.6 billion at the time of drafting this report. This surge in his fortune translates to an average daily gain of $60 million since Sept. 26.
With his current fortune of $2.6 billion, Bekker, who ranks as one of Africa’s richest billionaires, trailing behind distinguished figures like Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote, fellow South African billionaires Johann Rupert, and Nicky Oppenheimer, now claims the 1,317th spot on Forbes’ global list of the wealthiest individuals.
The recent uptick in his fortune can be attributed to the recent increase in the market value of his illustrious business ventures, including his 0.72-percent stake in Prosus N.V., a global internet entity within the South African conglomerate Naspers, as well as his 0.85-percent stake in Naspers, which happens to be Africa’s largest publicly traded company.
Over the past five days, the share price of Naspers on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange has increased marginally by more than 39 basis points, rising from R3,013.73 ($159.51) on Sept. 26 to R3,025.55 ($160.14), thereby pushing the value of Bekker’s 1,687,887 stake above the $270-million mark.

This increase has caused the market value of Bekker’s stake in Prosus to surge above $900 million.
Beyond his ventures in the corporate world, Bekker’s influence extends to his Babylonstoren estate, which showcases a rich history with architecture dating back to 1690 and comprises a farm, orchard, and vineyard, reflecting his appreciation for heritage and legacy.
