7 companies owned by Nigerian multimillionaire Oba Otudeko

Nigerian businessman Oba Otudeko has resurfaced in the spotlight after the Nigerian Stock Exchange announced on Saturday that an investment company controlled by the Nigerian tycoon had accumulated a 13.3-percent stake in FBN Holdings, thereby becoming the largest shareholder of the giant financial institution.

Otudeko, 79, is one of Nigeria’s wealthiest men. In 2014, Forbes Magazine put his net worth at $ 550-million. Otudeko is the founder and chairman of Honeywell Group, a conglomerate with tentacles in various industries. The group’s most popular – and most profitable company was Honey Flour Mills – a manufacturer of flour-based products, including baking flour, ball foods, noodles, and pasta. But last year, Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, a Nigerian agro-allied group led by Greek investor John Coumantaros, acquired a controlling interest in Honeywell Flour Mills. Otudeko personally pocketed $53 million from the transaction.

With the crown jewel of the Honeywell Group disposed of, Billionaires.Africa looks at seven prized companies Oba Otudeko still keeps in his portfolio today.
