Flutterwave, led by billionaire Gbenga Agboola, inks technology agreement with Bill Gates’ Microsoft

San Francisco and Lagos-based fintech unicorn Flutterwave, led by Nigerian tech billionaire Gbenga Agboola has sealed a strategic technology agreement with Microsoft, the multinational technology corporation co-founded by U.S. billionaires Bill Gates and Paul Allen.

Under the five-year partnership, Flutterwave will leverage Microsoft Azure, the cloud computing platform, to develop its next-generation platform. This collaboration aims to bolster payment infrastructure across Africa and beyond.

The agreement underscores Flutterwave’s commitment to providing global-grade services to African businesses and individuals and driving digital transformation worldwide.

Through this partnership, Flutterwave will facilitate the accelerated growth of transactions processed on its platform for global clients such as Uber, Netflix, and Microsoft.

The collaboration solidifies Azure’s role in ensuring a seamless, reliable, and secure payment experience.

Agboola, the founder and CEO of Flutterwave, expressed his appreciation for Microsoft’s invaluable partnership, stating: “Microsoft has been an invaluable partner, providing a platform that allows us to deliver high-quality services to our clients consistently.”

Agboola emphasized the importance of Microsoft Azure’s robustness, reliability, and scalability for managing high-volume payment processing, especially during peak periods.

Gurbhej Dhillon, Flutterwave’s CTO, highlighted the significance of Microsoft Azure as a strong foundation for the company’s development.

Dhillon mentioned the potential of scaling with Azure OpenAI Service in the future, enabling Flutterwave to serve even more merchants worldwide.

Flutterwave, under Agboola’s visionary leadership, has emerged as a prominent player in the African tech ecosystem.

Since its establishment in 2016, the company has leveraged technology’s rapid adoption to provide unlimited possibilities for customers and businesses in Africa and developing markets.

In addition to expanding its operations in Rwanda and Egypt this year, Flutterwave recently announced a strategic partnership with Audiomack. This collaboration aims to enhance music experiences, introduce innovative features for customers, and create monetization prospects for artists across Africa.

Flutterwave will facilitate seamless and secure payment processing capabilities, offering a broader audience on the continent access to various payment modes such as bank transfers, local cards, and mobile money.

This strategic move will enable Audiomack to reach a wider African userbase.
