Tennis legend and investor Serena Williams joins Consello as senior advisor

Serena Williams has joined the business consulting firm Consello Group as a senior advisor. She is the third retired great athlete to join the Consello Group, following former NFL star Tom Brady and former NBA star Pau Gasol.

Serena Williams resigned from tennis last year to devote her time to parenting and her interests, which include ownership stakes in the NWSL’s Angel City and the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.

Forbes estimates that the 23-time Grand Slam champion is worth $220 million. Her venture capital fund, Serena Ventures, has invested in more than 60 firms, including Tonal, an at-home AI fitness company, and Zigazoo, a kid-focused social media platform. In addition, 78 percent of Williams’ portfolios are companies started by people of color or women, according to CNN.

Consello Group provides financial services linked to M&A advising, investment banking, digital assets, and company growth to its banking clients. Declan Kelly, the former CEO of the public relations and consulting business Teneo, formed the Consello Group in 2022 before bringing Brady on board as a partner and Gasol on as an advisory board member.

“[Consello] is excited and honored to have Serena join our team, and we know she will bring significant value to our clients on both the financial advisory side, as well as our private equity portfolio companies,” Consello Group Partner Mindy Grossman said in a press release.

Williams announced in an essay in August 2022 that she was ready to hang up her racket, capping a career that garnered her about $95 million in prize money.

She co-founded Will Perform, a startup launched in December 2022 to create products for topical pain relief and muscle and skin care.

In April 2023, she launched the multimedia company Nine Two Six Productions to expand her efforts as a producer. She also made a cameo in the 2022 film, “Glass Onion.”
