Somali multimillionaire businessman Abdirashid Duale and his multinational money transfer corporation, Dahabshiil, have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to supporting and building the capacity of women entrepreneurs in the Horn of Africa and East Africa.
The recognition came during a ceremony held in Hargeisa, the capital city of Somaliland, to commemorate International Women’s Day.
Duale, the CEO of Dahabshiil, was honored for his unwavering commitment to empowering women in business, particularly those in small microenterprises.
Dahabshiil’s subsidiary, Microdahab, also received recognition for its crucial role in enabling women entrepreneurs to build and expand their businesses in the Horn of Africa and East Africa.
Speaking at the event celebrating the “Entrepreneurship of Women and Scholars” from the Chevening Awards, Duale announced that Dahabshiil will direct its efforts toward empowering women in business, as part of the group’s mission to foster the growth and success of women entrepreneurs in Africa.

Duale and Dahabshiil’s recent recognition for their support of women entrepreneurs in the Horn of Africa and East Africa comes 10 months after they received two Global Good Governance awards from Cambridge IFA, a prestigious London-based financial consultancy firm, for their outstanding services to the diaspora through money transfers.
In addition to these awards, in June 2022, Abdirashid Duale was honored at the Platinum Jubilee beacon-lighting event, held by Coutts, the world’s eighth-oldest bank, for his notable contribution to the growth of the financial sector.
During the ceremony, Duale reflected on Dahabshiil’s performance and stated that the company embodies the spirit of growth and innovation.
He highlighted the company’s success in building a global business from humble beginnings, creating job opportunities, and providing critical services that enable African diaspora communities to support their families and invest in businesses back home.
