Malagasy businessman Hassanein Hiridjee’s AXIAN Group launches 1.8 MW solar power plant
AXIAN Group, a Malagasy-based pan-African conglomerate led by multimillionaire businessman Hassanein Hiridjee, has partnered with French independent power producer, GreenYellow, to bring a game-changing 1.8 MW solar photovoltaic power plant to the Sava region of Madagascar.
The plant, developed by Green Energy Solutions (GES Madagascar) — the joint venture between AXIAN Group and GreenYellow — is situated in the municipality of Antalaha and will supply clean, renewable energy to the local grid, dramatically improving access to electricity for the people in the region.
The launch of a new facility, boasting an estimated annual output of 3 GWh, marks over four months since the launch of New Energy Africa (NEA), a subsidiary dedicated to clean and renewable energy, by the Hassanein Hiridjee group. The move is part of the company’s efforts to enhance its energy division and enhance Africa’s capacity for renewable energy sources.
The Antalaha Solar Power Plant, developed by GreenYellow, is the latest addition to the company’s portfolio of three renewable energy projects in the Sava region.
With a capacity of 6MW, it joins forces with the NEA Morondava Plant to deliver sustainable, eco-friendly, and cost-effective energy to the communities and enterprises in the surrounding areas.
This initiative marks a significant milestone toward creating a more sustainable future for the region. It showcases the unwavering dedication of AXIAN Group and GreenYellow to promoting clean energy solutions and addressing Africa’s persistent energy crisis, which has left millions without access to electricity.
AXIAN Group, headquartered in Madagascar, is a pan-African conglomerate with active operations in the real estate, telecommunications, finance, and energy sectors in six countries spanning the Indian Ocean and the African continent.
Under the leadership of Hiridjee, the group has achieved tremendous growth and is now recognized as Madagascar’s top energy producer. With a commitment to socio-economic progress in the countries it operates in, AXIAN Group is working to bring clean and affordable energy to households and businesses in Madagascar through its renewable energy division.
Earlier this year, WeLight Madagascar, a rural electrification operator owned by AXIAN Group, received €19 million ($20.5 million) from the European Investment Bank, Triodos Investment Management, and EDFI ElectriFI to bring clean, affordable, and reliable energy to remote areas in Madagascar.
The €28-million ($30.3 million) project aims to improve the livelihoods of rural communities and promote sustainable development.
