NDLEA receives $1.1-million grant from Abdul Samad Rabiu to combat drug abuse in Nigeria

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Nigeria has received a grant of N500 million ($1.1 million) from the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa), a philanthropic organization founded by Nigeria’s second-richest man Abdul Samad Rabiu.

ASR Africa is a nonprofit foundation established in April 2021 to support long-term, impact-driven solutions to developmental concerns affecting health, education, and social development across Africa.

The grant received by NDLEA falls under the ASR Africa Security Sector Support Scheme, which aims to sustainably impact security and social development in Africa. The grant was presented to the agency by Ubon Udoh, the CEO of ASR Africa, on behalf of Rabiu, the chairman of the organization.

Rabiu, whose net worth recently surpassed $8.1 billion, stated that the grant was in recognition of the many successes of the NDLEA in combating and curbing the growth, processing, manufacturing, selling, exporting, and trafficking of hard drugs and substances in the country.

NDLEA Chairman and CEO Mohamed Buba Marwa accepted the grant and commended Rabiu, who is also the second-richest man in Nigeria and one of Africa’s richest billionaires, for his philanthropy and support for humanity.

Marwa stated that the grant will be used for long-term and impactful projects related to the country’s current drug problem. He described Rabiu as a patriot, philanthropist, and foremost industrialist who is concerned with human welfare.

The NDLEA boss also emphasized that the drug problem in Nigeria cannot be tackled by the government and the agency alone and that there is an urgent need for all stakeholders to support Nigeria’s War on Drug Abuse initiative.

This initiative encourages all individuals and organizations to stand up and support efforts to combat drug abuse in the country.

Overall, the grant from ASR Africa will help the agency in its efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria, and will also contribute to the organization’s goal of uplifting and restoring the dignity and lives of African people through the promotion of peace and security.
