Issad Rebrab’s Cevital opens multimillion-dollar electric motors factory in Algeria
Cevital Group, a well-diversified manufacturing conglomerate founded by Algerian billionaire Issad Rebrab, has opened a factory in Sétif, one of the most important cities in eastern Algeria, to produce electric motors for washing machines.
The facility, known as “WEG Algeria Motors SpA,” was inaugurated in the presence of Algeria’s Industry Minister Ahmed Zeghdar and Brazilian Ambassador to Algeria Flavio Mariga.
The move comes nearly five months after Cevital and Brazilian electric motor manufacturer WEG SA agreed to establish a joint venture to produce and sell washing machine electric motors.
The new plant, which will be part of WEG Algeria Motors, will produce between 1 and 1.2 million electric motors for washing machines per year under the framework of the partnership between Cevital and WEG.
Cevital believes that the operation of WEG Algeria Motors will meet the needs expressed by household appliance companies and export abroad, particularly to North African countries and surrounding markets, while also creating no less than 100 jobs in the country.
Zeghdar praised the collaboration between Cevital and WEG, stating that the plant’s launch will give a new boost to the household appliance industries, which are regarded as one of the most efficient industrial branches in terms of quantity, quality, and profitability.
Zeghdar explained that the new plant’s electric motors will meet 83 percent of the country’s needs, while also encouraging the export of electrical appliances to foreign markets.
The opening of the plant comes five months after Rebrab, Cevital Group’s founder, stepped down as CEO of the group.
His departure came after more than five decades developing the local economy and growing Cevital Group into a leading brand in the Middle East and North Africa. On July 1, his son Malik was appointed CEO.
