Africa Data Centers (ADC), a leading carrier-neutral data center provider, has announced the building of a 30-megawatt data center facility in Accra, Ghana, as part of a concerted effort to become the continent’s leader in digital services and solutions providers.

ADC is an affiliate of Cassava Technologies, a fiber and telecom solutions group founded by Strive Masiyiwa, Zimbabwe’s richest man and a leading African tech billionaire.

The firm’s new 30-megawatt data center facility in Accra, Ghana’s capital city, comes nearly six months after it opened a massive 10.65-megawatt data center facility in Lagos, Nigeria’s financial capital.

According to a press release obtained by Billionaires.Africa, the new data center facility will lay the groundwork for the company’s hyper-scale partners to expand digital services and solutions to more countries in West Africa, and will make ADC the largest provider in West Africa, with facilities in Nigeria, Togo, and now Ghana.

According to Tesh Durvasula, CEO of ADC, the Accra operation is a significant milestone for ADC and highlights the massive growth opportunity the company sees for its business in the region and on the continent.

“We are seeing unprecedented demand for digital services, apps, broadband, cloud technologies, and more, all of which are seeing data demand soar to previously unimagined levels,” Durvasula said.

He added that, despite significant growth in recent years, many Ghanaians remain without digital services, and the establishment of a data center in the country aligns with ADC’s expansion plans and is timely, as the government has been introducing innovative and forward-thinking digital projects in recent years.

Durvasala, who has been a leader at CyrusOne, a Texas-based carrier-neutral data center provider, for more than nine years, was named CEO of ADC in February. The Accra data center is his first project as CEO of the leading carrier-neutral data center provider.

The recent development, which is great news for Masyiwa, comes after South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe surpassed him to become the richest Black businessman in Southern Africa.

Billionaires.Africa reported nearly two weeks ago that the Zimbabwean billionaire had lost over $620 million due to a drop in the value of his stake in Econet Wireless Zimbabwe (Econet Zimbabwe).
