Somali businessman Abdirashid Duale’s Somtel partners with Telesom to facilitate connectivity
Somtel, a renowned telecom and technology service provider with the most extensive network coverage in Somaliland, has partnered with Telesom to advance communication and connection in the region. Telesom is a telecommunications company with active operations in Somaliland.
Dahabshiil, an international money transfer corporation run by Somali multimillionaire Abdirashid Duale, owns 95 percent of Somtel, which provides a broad variety of mobile phone and Internet services to regional consumers.
The agreement between Telesom and Somtel will go into effect within 40 days of its signing and will help eliminate restrictions preventing users from calling each other across the networks.
The deal was facilitated by the Somaliland Telecommunications and Technology Ministry, which is currently in the process of introducing the relevant laws and regulatory frameworks.
The agreement is expected to facilitate the growth of telecom activities in the region, as the companies seek to add value by improving communications and connection.
The deal comes two weeks after Somtel, Telesom and Somcable, represented by their owners and CEOs, agreed to share the landing and operation of the underwater cables entering the nation.
The cooperation will help to more efficiently introduce high-speed underground fiber-optic services to Somaliland and increase the operations and activities of other enterprises operating in the country’s education, health and communication sectors.
Somtel launched an IPO last year. In the listing procedure, the business set an issue price of $100 per share.
