Nigerian multimillionaire Mohammed Indimi donates complex to local university

Nigerian multimillionaire and Oriental Energy Resources Founder Mohammed Indimi has donated a multi-billion-naira complex to the University of Maiduguri in Nigeria.

The gesture was an affirmation of his commitment to improving education in the country.

According to The Cable, the complex has a 1,300-capacity international conference center, staff offices, a conference room, an examinational hall, a laboratory, a recreational center and other state-of-the-art structures.

Prominent political figures, including Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum attended the opening ceremony.

Speaking at the inauguration, Buhari lauded Indimi for his philanthropic activities and charged other Nigerian high net-worth individuals to do more for the country.

Praising the billionaire, Buhari said: “I am highly impressed with what I have seen at this state-of-the-art centre for distance learning and auditorium sited here, the University of Maiduguri. I am told that this international conference hall has 1,300 seats. The high-quality standard of this edifice is a major contribution by alhaji Muhammadu Indimi. This intervention will benefit not only students from Borno and the north-east, but also students from all parts of Nigeria.”

According to media reports, the oil magnate has been deeply involved in philanthropic activities inside and outside the country. His foundation, Muhammadu Indimi Foundation, recently constructed a 100-unit N600-million ($1.46 million) housing estate in Borno State to help Nigerians who have been affected by terrorist attacks in the region.

The businessman has also donated the International Business Center to Lynn University in the United States, which was named in his honor, and awarded more than 470 scholarships to Nigerian students.

Indimi is the chairman and founder of Oriental Energy Resources, a privately held Nigerian oil exploration and production company founded in 1990. He sits on the board of various companies, including Jaiz Bank, where he is the largest shareholder.
