SweepSouth, Africa’s first online platform for booking and managing home cleaning services, has finalized the buy-out of the Egypt-based Filkhedma for an undisclosed sum.
Led by female technology tycoon Aisha Pandor, SweepSouth is fondly referred to as the Uber of cleaning services. It is a pioneer end-to-end platform connecting homeowners with domestic cleaning service providers.
The company was established in 2014 and currently operates in eight South African cities, providing employment opportunities to thousands of unemployed and underemployed women.
As part of a strategic move to expand its operations across the continent, the firm announced the acquisition of a 100-percent stake in Egypt’s leading home service marketplace, Filkhedma.
Established in 2014 by Omar Ramadan, Filkhedma provides high-quality maintenance services for homes and offices in Egypt, leveraging technology and a network of experienced technicians. Its services include deep cleaning, pest control, beauty and PCR analysis.
Filkhedma had raised $1.3 million from five investors since launching. Recently, it announced that it had raised a bridge round of funding from Cairo Angels as it prepared to announce a significant milestone, which eventually emerged to be the acquisition by SweepSouth.
As part of the deal, all Filkhedma employees and its founder Omar Ramadan will stay on board the newly enlarged entity. The move will enable SweepSouth to tap into their wealth of experience in the Egyptian market and beyond.
Confirming the deal, SweepSouth CEO and Co-Founder Aisha Pandor, said: ”We are thrilled to have FilKhedma as part of the SweepSouth family. It is not only their services that align with ours but also their values and culture.”
