Ghanaian logistics tycoon Daniel McKorley signs $810,000 sponsorship deal with football club
McDan Group, a leading logistics and transportation company founded by Ghanaian tycoon Daniel McKorley has signed a three-year $810,000 sponsorship deal with the indigenous football club and two-time Ghanaian Premier League champion Accra Great Olympics.
The deal will see the club, fondly called ‘’Oly,’’ pocket up to $270,000 per year for the duration of the contract. Of this sum, the club will receive $100,000 in cash per year, with the rest being tied to performance-related clauses.
The club will earn an extra $100,000 if they win the championship, $50,000 if they win the FA Cup and $20,000 if they finish in the top four of the Ghanaian Premier League.
Billionaires.Africa can report that the Annor Walker-led Accra Great Olympics club currently sits in seventh place in the Ghanaian Premier League after playing so far six matches this season.
The club has won two games, tied three and lost one in the 2021-2022 season.
The deal is a strong motivation for the club, providing much-needed financing that will help it compete favorably with other clubs in the league.
Walker, the club’s manager, said: ‘’This came as a surprise and at a time that the club needed a sponsor. I am delighted because this will motivate me and the players to do more than we have done before.”
McKorley said the firm is willing to do more for the club if it abides by the terms of the deal.
“I expect Great Olympics not to disgrace me. I expect them to perform; and I expect them to respect the brand, the sponsor, and the sponsorship package,” he said.
“I don’t expect them to take this brand for granted. The brand alone has a lot of respect and now that we sponsor them, they must behave like McDan,” he added.
Similarly, the Ghanaian tycoon previously offered interest-free loans amounting to about $494,997 to 1,000 women-led small-scale businesses in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
McDan Group specializes in domestic maritime, warehousing, courier, hauling and aviation services. It has a presence in Liberia, Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone.
