Thandi Orleyn-led Implats expects 2021 financial year to close on strong note as HEPS grows

Impala Platinum Holdings Limited has released its trading statement for the financial year ending 2021, in which it said it ended on a strong note compared to its full-year earnings in 2020. 

According to the statement issued on Johannesburg Stock Exchange News Services, the platinum miner noted that it expects basic and headline earnings per share for the year ending June 30 to grow by more than 20 percent compared to the figures reported for the year ending June 30, 2020.

Implats recorded an increase of between 122 and 129 percent for headline earnings and an increase of between 120 and 126 percent for HEPS. 

Therefore, headline earnings for the reviewed period are between R35.8 billion ($2.43 billion) and R36.8 billion ($2.5 billion) and headline earnings per share (HEPS) are expected to be between 4,564 cents ($3.1) and 4,691 cents ($3.19) per share. 

Headline earnings and HEPS for the comparative period were R16.1 billion ($1.09 billion) and 2,075 cents ($1.41) respectively.

The company further expects basic earnings for the period to be between R46.5 billion ($3.16 billion) and R47.5 billion ($3.23 billion). Meanwhile, basic earnings per share (EPS) are expected to be between 5,928 cents ($4.02) and 6,056 cents ($4.11) per share.

This would represent an increase of between 189 and 195 percent for basic earnings and an increase of between 187 and 193 percent for EPS.

Implats

Implats is a South African holding with several companies operating platinum and platinum group metals mines. Notable among its mining assets is the Impala mine in South Africa’s North-West province.

Thandi Orleyn currently chairs the holding. 

Orleyn is a lawyer and business executive who has actively served in the country’s financial sector and in executive positions in other leading companies, including Toyota SA and Toyota Financial Services (South Africa). 

She served as non-executive director of the South African Reserve Bank.
