Arsenal fans clamor for Aliko Dangote to become club’s new owner
Arsenal FC fans are calling for a new owner after Stan Kroenke’s decision to join the breakaway European Super League. Kevin Campbell, the club’s veteran striker, suggested that the club should be sold to Africa’s wealthiest man, Aliko Dangote.
Just Arsenal reported that Campbell agreed with fans who are demanding an end to Kroenke’s ownership and would like to see Dangote join the club as its new owner.
Despite the chaos, Kroenke said: “We have no intention of selling; I believe we are fit to carry on in our position as custodians of Arsenal.” He added that: “We were put in a very difficult position by forces outside of the club.”
Although Dangote has a keen interest in Arsenal, he insists that it is not time to invest in the club. In a statement, Football London quoted Dangote as saying: “It’s not about buying Arsenal and just continuing with business as usual It’s about buying Arsenal and turning it around. I’ve run a very successful business, and I think I can also run a very successful team. Right now, with what we’re facing, over $20billion of projects, I cannot do both.”
The billionaire is a die-hard fan of the English club, with a long-standing interest in buying the struggling Arsenal. However, Dangote has reiterated over the years that until he finishes his billion-dollar refinery, he would not be interested in purchasing it.
Commenting, Campbell said, “As a fan of the club, he would want to put us back on the right footing. One-hundred percent, I would love it to happen. I would absolutely love it.”Meanwhile, Daniel Ek, the billionaire founder of the globally acclaimed online music streaming platform, Spotify, has also shown an interest in purchasing Arsenal. On April 23, he tweeted: “As a kid growing up, I’ve cheered for @Arsenal as long as I can remember. If KSE would like to sell Arsenal, I’d be happy to throw my hat in the ring.”
